Green Magazines
Being a mom of 2 active boys (do they come any other way?) I don’t have a lot of time to read books. Books require quiet and personal time two things that are in short supply around here.
So instead I read magazines, lots of magazines. I can start and stop a magazine as many times as I need without the “but I need to know what happens next” feeling because kids don't really care that you're about to find out who did it, they need you now.
I started getting even more magazines after starting this blog so I could learn more about all things green. The irony that I was killing massive amounts of trees to learn about greenness was not lost on me however. And while I do know that you can read magazines online, I like the feel of it in my hands and that I can tear pages out to save for later. As bad as I know using paper is, I like having it. No matter how green I get, that will probably never change.
And that is why I search out recycled paper products and why I was so happy to find betterpaper.ning.com.
Here’s a little about them in their own words:
Our Vision is a paper production and consumption economy that repairs, rather than damages, our environment while creating sustainable jobs for the community.
Our Mission is to foster collaboration between paper manufacturers, merchants, investors, businesses, nonprofits and consumers to achieve our vision and encourage the production of socially and environmentally responsible paper – Better Paper.
Our Objective is to work with magazine industry stakeholders to communicate their green intentions to their supply chain by implementing environmental stewardship policies and purchasing practices.
What I really like about them is they have this list of magazines (about green topics, of course) that are printed on recycled and/or FSC-certified paper. Two of my faves are Body & Soul and Natural Solutions, but there are a couple others on there that I think I may have to try.
Now I can get my green knowledge on and not feel quite so terrible doing it.
