Green Mother's Day Ideas

Mother’s day is this Sunday, May 10th and if you’re reading this you may be wondering what to give mom besides flowers grown who-knows-how or chocolate made with who-knows-what.

Well I’ve got a few suggestions, but I can’t tell you which I’ll be going with because my mom reads this and I would like to surprise her.

• Stainless steel water bottle. I know, big shock there. You do need to make sure they are good quality or they can still pose some of the same risks as plastic bottles so I recommend going to greenfeet.com (they have a huge selection of Klean Kanteen bottles which are my fave) or reusablebags.com.

Endangered Species Chocolates. They are an amazing company (they give proceeds of their profits to conservation) with amazing chocolates. They also have very cool non-chocolate gifts. You can also find them at Walgreens and many health food stores.

• Reusable shopping bags. Another big shock I know. Ecobags.com is a great site for bags (as well as the above mentioned sites). You can get your bags custom printed to make your moms bag just as unique as she is.

Poo Poo Paper. It’s considerably less gross than it sounds. If you read my April Fools post you know that poo poo paper is made from the fibers collected in elephant dung and that proceeds from the sale of the products go towards elephant conservation. The products are also really are very nice looking, I especially like the greeting cards set.

Personally I would much rather get something on this list than flowers and chocolate bought at the grocery store (hint, hint).

For some other good ideas check out the daily green.

These are such great suggestions. I think I am taking my mom fruit tree picking with an org in Toronto called Not Far From The Treet- they harvest otehr people's trees (http://www.notfarfromthetree.org/)

But I am totally digging the poo paper! That is brilliant.
