Daily Tips
Every day on my Facebook Fan Page and my Twitter Page I do a daily tip . Some are better than others, but I always do one and I thought I'd post some of them on here.
If you like them be sure to become a fan on Facebook or join me on twitter. Just click on one of the buttons on the left.
If you've got a tip feel free to leave it. You can either leave it here or on one of the other sites.
Enjoy and go do something green!
• Turn the washing machine to cold. It's good for the environment and your clothes.
• Use rechargeable batteries. They're much better for the planet and your wallet.
• If you can only buy 1 organic item, buy milk. The cows are fed an organic diet and aren't treated with hormones or antibiotics.
• When you go to the ATM or get gas, say no to the receipt. Even if you recycle it when you get home, did you really need it in the 1st place?
• Skip the screen saver, instead just set it to turn the monitor off. I have mine set at 5 min.
• If you're in the market for a new computer you may want to consider a laptop, aside from the portability they use 5x less energy then desktops.
• Unplug electronics when you're not using them. Plugs still pull power even when they're "off".
• Only run full loads in the dishwasher & washing machine, you'll save about 1,000 gal. of water a month doing this.
• Save water, shower together. It's fun and helps the planet!
• If you can't recycle at work, then bring it home to recycle. It only takes a little more effort, but you'll feel a lot better.
• An idling car creates twice the emissions of a car in motion. Idling does not use less gas than turning it on & off. So, if you're going to be stopped for more than 10 sec, turn it off.
• To help make sure everyone in the house remembers to recycle, put a garbage can that's for recyclables next to the regular garbage can.
• Water your lawn & garden in the morning or evening when it's cooler to minimize evaporation.
• Faucet mount water filters take 5 sec. to activate before actually filtering the water, that's 3/4 of a cup. Fill a different cup with that water & use for plants.
• Shorten your shower by 1-2 minutes and save an average of 150 gallons of water a month.
• The next time you need to send a package use a cereal box or other food box. It extends the life of the box, keeps new boxes out of circulation and best of all, it's free!
• Collect rain water from gutters & use it to water your lawn or garden. Save the planet & some money.
• Smile! It's impossible to stay mad when you're smiling. Saving your sanity is just as important as saving the planet!
