Honey, How You Surprise Me
I found out about honey scrubs purely by chance. About a month or so ago I was cleaning out my cabinets and came across a jar of honey from who-knows-when that had crystallized.
Did you know that honey never goes bad? I know, weird.
Anyways, I figured I could soften it back up again but wasn’t sure what the best way would be and since I was going to the farmers market in few days thought I would just wait and ask the people who sell the honey.
So when I got there I explained my situation to the lady and she told me that putting the jar in very hot water or in the microwave would soften it back up again, but to make sure I really watch it if I put it in the microwave.
As I was about to leave she told me that I could also use it the way it was as a facial scrub, she uses it herself every week. Now to be honest I only listened because I didn’t want to be rude, the idea of putting sticky honey on my face did not sound appealing at all. My skin is a little dry, a little oily and very sensitive so this just didn’t seem like a good idea to me.
When I got home I looked up honey face wash online and found out that honey is a natural antibiotic, is antimicrobial, full of antioxidants (especially the really dark stuff), and moisturizing. It can also do wonders for acne and blackheads. Seeing as blackheads are something that I still fight with I thought maybe it would be worth a try.

I would like to make it very clear that even though I'm calling this a scrub you should absolutely not scrub your face with the honey on. I did that the first time and it really irritated my skin.
Now I just gently put it on and try to smooth it around a little. I like to let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing it off as well. I still get a little redness around my chin sometimes, it's probably from the natural acids and it goes away within a few minutes. I only do it once a week, sometimes less, and I like to do it at night. I really have noticed a difference and am glad I gave it a shot.
Now it seemed to me that if honey could be used as scrub once a week it could also be used as a face wash everyday, and I was right. But my fingers are tired so you'll have to come back to find out about it.

Hi Julia! Great post, honey (especially more naturally produced brands) are great for skin. I have a question though, do you have an email I could reach you at? you can mail me at nora@wildflowerfarm.com
That's awesome! I have some crystallized honey in my pantry, I'll have to give it a try.
And then let me know how you like it!
