Back-To-School Is For The Birds

One of the other things I got from Terracycle was a bird feeder. I know, back-to-school supplies and a bird feeder, makes perfect sense right?

Anyways, I picked the feeder because we have tons of birds around here so I thought it would be a fun way for the kids to be able to get a better look at them. We have the perfect tree for a feeder that’s right outside our kitchen window so that’s the one we choose to hang it from.

It's not as fancy looking as many of the ones you can find in the stores, but what it lacks in looks it more than makes up for in green. What’s so great about the bird feeder is that it’s made from a 2 liter soda bottle and the feeder tray is made from 100% recycled plastic. See why I wanted one now?

Hanging it up wasn’t too hard, mostly it was just awkward because of the ladder Todd was using; well that and the fact that he didn’t read the instructions ahead of time. So if you read the instructions before starting you’ll be just fine and there’s even a video you can watch to show you how it’s done, I noticed that after Todd was done.

When we first put it up we didn’t get much action, but once the birds noticed it, it became quite the place to be. More times than not when we look out the window there’s a bird out there eating out of the feeder.

We’ve already had to refill it which was super easy to do. You just unscrew the feeder tray, fill it up and put it back. Since refilling it we’ve actually had different birds come by which is just kind of interesting.

The boys absolutely love watching the birds eat out of it and I like them seeing that even trash can be useful.
