Castile Soap, The Easiest Greenest Of Them All

You may recall my love for all things multi-purposed, that's probably why I love castile soap so much and that's what today's Easy Eco Idea is.

Castile soap is by far one of the easiest greenest products you can buy in my opinion.

You can use it for absolutely everything. For your body, teeth, cleaning, laundry, dishes, just everything.

One reason I love it so much is because there are no weird ingredients in it and I especially love Dr. Bronner’s Castile Soap because it’s organic and fair trade.

These are the ingredients listed on the Dr. Bronner’s website: Water, Saponified Organic Coconut*, Organic Palm* and Organic Olive* Oils (w/Retained Glycerin), Organic Hemp Oil, Organic Jojoba Oil, Essential Oils**, Citric Acid, Vitamin E, the essential oils vary depending on which one you buy.

I mentioned castile soap in my honey face wash post but now that I’ve changed my diet I no longer need a special face wash. Now all I do is wash my face at night with a few drops of Dr. Bronner’s Baby Mild soap and I’m good. My skin feels clean and not the least bit dry.

A drop or two on a wet toothbrush and brush away knowing there are no sulphates or fluoride, just good clean ingredients. Right now I just have the baby mild but next time I'm out I'm going to pick up the peppermint for brushing my teeth.

I also found a recipe for making dishwashing detergent with castile soap. I haven’t tried it yet (because I literally just found it) but I’m definitely going to give it a try. I found it on greenlivingtips.com submitted by a reader, here it is:

1/2 cup liquid castile soap
1/2 cup water
1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
3 drops tea tree oil
1/2 cup white vinegar

Stir all ingredients together until blended. Store in a squirt top bottle. Use 2 tablespoons per load of dishes, shake well before use.

Castile soap is a great all purpose cleaner, you can use it for everything from bathroom sinks to greasy messes like stoves, just dilute it or use it full strength.

A 16 oz bottle cost less than $10 online or you can find it at just about any store. I’ve seen it at Target, Whole Foods, CVS and every health food store, so it’s really not hard to find. Most of the time you need very little of it to get the job done so it’s by far the most economical green multi-purpose cleaner.

Plus Dr. Bronner was just a character, it’s worth buying his soap just to read the bottle. But I’ll say this about him, he sure did love the planet.

You can find more uses and directions in the FAQ section of Dr. Bronner's site.
