How Do You Reuse?

I’ve talked about recycling and how to make it easier, but recycling should really be a last resort.

So today’s Easy Eco Idea is reusing.

There are so many things that we throw away that we could actually reuse at least once if not multiple times.

Previously I mentioned reusing plastic containers. We bring in so much plastic that we than just throw into the recycle box, but all those yogurt, sour cream and deli counter containers can be used many more time. They’re great for leftovers and snack containers for lunches. Just make sure to wash them by hand and not in the dishwasher because the heat from the dishwasher could cause them to leach toxins.

Plastic baggies can be washed and reused as well. They even make special drying racks for them, but a regular dish rack would work just as well.

Food boxes can be used as shipping boxes or to place presents into to wrap.

The bag that the cereal comes in can be used as a cutting board once or twice before it’s recycled. (That one's from my Aunt Connie, I love how my family is totally into giving me ideas for my blog! First my Gramma, now my Aunt. Awesome!)

Wrapping paper that isn’t too badly destroyed can be used again.

You can turn old milk jugs into to bird feeders or any one of these other 35 ideas.

There are of course great reusables you can buy, but first go through what you have and see what can be reused. It saves money and resources.

What do you reuse?

That plastic bag dryer would make me laugh if it weren't for real! Spending nearly $20 on a brand new "dryer" like that defeats the whole idea, I think!

Anyhow, thanks for point out an alternative! I try to avoid plastic bags whenever possible (using glass or stainless steel containers instead), but if I need to dry one I just put it over a jar or glass to dry.

I don't think buying one is really necessary, I just try to put all the options out there.
