This Post Is Tree-tastic

Today’s Easy Eco Idea is to plant a tree. I swear, it’s easier than it sounds.

I have 3 suggestions for going about and planting a tree; 1) go to your local nursery, pick one out and bring it home to plant 2) volunteer with the Arbor Day Foundation and plant one in a community near you that needs it 3) donate money online to plant a tree.

Number one is pretty self explanatory but obviously only works if you own your home or if the landlord of the house you rent doesn’t mind. It seems like a landlord wouldn’t mind because trees not only add shade and oxygen they also make the house more desirable and so easier for the owner to rent or sell later. So if you can ask and if it doesn’t work out try one of the others.

Volunteering is just a great thing to do in general and by planting trees you’ll not only make a difference now but later as well. Go to arborday.org click on “volunteer in your state” then choose your state and the city closest to you and now you’re half way there. I found a group in Sacramento and signed up for their newsletter so the next time there’s an event I’ll know.

The last one is certainly the easiest by far. If you can’t plant a tree where you live and aren’t sure you can commit to volunteering you can certainly donate money to plant a tree. For as little as $1 you can plant a tree somewhere there very much needs it. I even found a site that will plant one for free, you just answer 10 questions about your daily activities and sign-up for reminders on how to change them.

The 2 that I liked best are plantabillion.org where for every dollar you donate they plant a tree and carbongrove.com which doesn't cost anything and you can pick between the Amazon, Savanna and Sumatra and then choose a tree native to that region.
