Waste Free Lunches, Good For The Planet, Good For Your Wallet
Easy Eco Idea day 7 is about waste free lunches.
Whether you take your lunch to work or pack it for your kids to take to school, do it without all the waste.
There are so many great reusable options out there now that there’s really no excuse to still be using plastic baggies and disposable drink bottles.
Reusit.com (previously reusablebags.com) has a crazy huge selection of reusable lunch bags, containers, utensils and napkins. Awesome!
You can also find them at some stores. Whole Foods carries Bento Buddies (made in the USA!) which are made by the people who make Laptop Lunches. While these are plastic they contain no phthalates, BPA’s, lead or PVC. I picked up 2 sets of these for Tyler and Dylan to use this year. After getting them home though, I’m not so sure Dylan will be able to open them by himself being that he’s only 5 and not a very big 5 at that.
I also ordered some snackTAXI bags from reusit.com because I know Dylan can use those. They’re cotton with a PVC free lining, machine washable, and are made in the USA so you know I’m a happy camper! Also they come in snack and sandwich sizes. This way if the containers don’t work for Dylan he can use the baggies and if they do, I know I’ll use the baggies around the house!
Buying them may seem pricy, but if you look at the long term saving of not having to buy plastic bags again they definitely pay for themselves!
Not to mention the green savings as well; all the oil that’s used to make plastic and keeping all those baggies out of landfills it’s really well worth it.
How do you make your lunch waste free?
