Zero Waste Week

So how are you doing with the ditch your disposables challenge so far? Well just to kick it up a notch according to My Zero Waste this week (September 7th - September 13th) is National Zero Waste Week.

Zero Waste Week is just what it sounds like, one week where you don’t throw anything into the garbage. By reducing, reusing and recycling it actually is possible, it just takes a bit of effort. But it’s only one week and we’ve already started by ditching our disposables so maybe it won’t be so hard to do.

We only throw out one bag maybe two a week and that’s for 5 people so I’ve always thought that was pretty good, but I really want to see if we can in fact go a whole week without throwing anything away.

I’ve got a few ideas about how to go about all this but seeing as it’s Labor Day, I’m going to go spend time with my family instead of writing on here forever.

So tomorrow I’ll let you know what I’m going to do and I plan on tracking my garbage can all week so you can see how we’re doing.

Hi :)
I really like your blog :)
I've only just come across My Zero Waste, but I'm going to try to take part in Zero Waste Week in my own small way, by completely cutting out plastic bags and water bottles, doesn't seem much but maybe next year I'll be braver and do something bigger!
Looking forward to seeing what you're doing!

Hi, thanks! Those are 2 great things to work on giving though! Wednesday's post should be extra helpful for you, it's going to be about an alternative to plastic baggies!

Earlier this year I took up a challenge that my friend presented, not buying any more water bottles. So far so good with that. For this week I decided to stop using paper napkins and paper towels. It helps that I like to knit dishcloths. So far so good. I am also going to work on a UFO project, making napkins from muslin fabric. After reading your post about tissues, I want to try and make some handkerchiefs as well.

Thanks for doing this challenge. You are an inspiration!
