Lovely Lunapads
So once again Aunt Flo came to visit and I firmly stuck to my new no disposable stance.
I made it through last month with my homemade solution. No, they weren’t all pretty and hand sewn by my mom; they were made out of desperation from an old towel and scissors.
So I was quite happy when my request to try out Lunapads reusable pads in exchange for a write up was answered with an enthusiastic “Yes!”
I sent Lunapads a direct message through Twitter, got a response and shortly thereafter got my pads in the mail.
Now this happened during last month’s no disposable pads spree so they didn’t get here until after I was done for the month. I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but I’ve actually been looking forward to my monthly visit just so I could try these pads out. Is that weird? Yeah, it kind of is, isn’t it?
What I received in my sampler pack was a mini pantyliner for light flows, a maxi pad with 1 regular liner and 1 wing liner, as well as a waterproof pouch to carry them in.
I gave the pantyliner a try first because that’s pretty much all I ever need. It was super soft and comfy and I really loved the snap on the wings. The ones I had been using just sat there and one time I wasn’t paying as much attention as I should have been and well….splash.
Needless to say I could never ever imagine going back, ever. I just love them!
Lunapads has a great variety too; 6 sizes of pads and 3 sizes of pantyliners in fabric choices including un-dyed organic cotton and 100% cotton prints.
Here are some pretty unbelievable facts that they sent me along with the pads:
• In North America alone over 60 million women use disposable feminine hygiene products.
• On an individual level , this adds up to upwards of $2,500 being spent on approximately 11,000 disposable pads or tampons over a 40 year period
• Over 14 billion disposable pads, tampons and applicators make their way into landfills annually which can take up to 500 years to decompose.
That’s a lot of money and a whole lot of waste that really is avoidable. And to help us all onto the path of reausable pads Lunapads also included a coupon code for 10% off any order over $35 and you have until February 28th 2010to use it. Awesome! Just enter “easyeco09” during checkout and voila, you’re savin’ cash while you’re savin’ the planet!
Not interested in reusable pads? Well you can also get the Diva Cup or Lunapanties. Let me tell you, those panties look like a trip, but in a good way!

Thanks for posting about these, they're on my list of things I'm going to switch to (once I've moved out, cos my mum alraeady freaks out about my hankies being in her washing machine, never mind reusable pads!) so it's nice to hear how well you've got on with them :)
I'm still kind of shocked that I actually made the switch! But they really are very nice and I think you'll like them when you switch. Don't forget to use the coupon code "easyeco09"!
i love my lunapads! I only have to use them one or two days because my Diva Cup is so effective.
Ooh, these look awesome!! :)
Glad you like 'em, I enjoy my DIYs (no towels! towel=scratchy lol! soft cut up old vests or undies he he..)
I've been eyeing some of these, no such pretty ones for sale in Slovenia!
I started using a Diva Cup earlier this year, and was excited to try it, so I don't think that's weird at all!
I absolutely love my cup, and often forget I've got my period even when I'm right in the middle of it. Who can say that about disposables?
Great post! I bought a DivaCup last week, I'm just waiting for it to arrive...then waiting to get my period. I know how you feel about being uh...strangely excited. I just want to try it out! I'm thinking about saving up for some lunapads as well, but I think I might wait until I no longer have any housemates....
Glad to hear I' not the only one excited about ditching disposable fem. product Sandra and Tasha!
