A Garden Of Learning - Wordless Wednesday

The school that my boys go to has 2 gardens.

They're growing veggies like the ones you see here; kale, chard, and mustard greens.

They also grow lettuce, onions, garlic and flowers.

I absolutely love this program and am so happy that I can be the garden mom for both Tyler and Dylan's classes.

In May the school will have a farmers market where they sell the produce and stepping stones that the classes have made.

This is our first year at this school and I can't wait for the farmers market.

It's great that they are being taught how to plant. Happy WW.

That's quite a project. I'm guessing they get a good deal of help on the side putting the beds together and all, thought I've seen school children helping out with a good deal of that. It wonderful that they can learn outside too. Great experience all around!

Gardening is such a wonderful way for kids (and adults) to connect to their food, health, and the world around them. I love that your school is doing this!

Whenever we've been settled in one place for long enough I've gardened with my kiddos. They love it. Such a sense of accomplishment when they bring in their home-grown produce. And you should see the way they nurture and treasure their little "babies" in the garden. It's delightful. =)

Awesome! My kids went to Montessori for elementary. They also had a nice garden. I think all schools should teach this in some form.

I love when schools have these kinds of programs, esp in the elementary & pre-school levels. It teaches them so much more than gardening! I often will shop at the schools that promote this even tho I no longer have school age kiddos!
Happy WW!

Hi Julia, well thanks for getting caught up on my blog and for all your lovely, awesome, in depth and insightful comments! I couldnt have agreed with you more!

I love the farmers markets, too, and also can't wait!

The Give away you're doing, I am going to get over to it and get my entries in soon :) You are so supportive of me, and it's the least i can do to show some support right on back!

Those gardens look lovely and I love that they'll be selling the produce - are they going to use the money to buy anything specific??
I've done similar projects at schools I've worked in - but we ate the veggies rather than sold them!
