Gotta Love Gardening!

Wondering where Monday's giveaway is? Well I thought I'd switch things up a bit, but don't worry there is another giveaway coming.

So remember how I was all freaked out about the snow last week? Well I’m happy to report that what I read about snow not being that bad for plants was really true. In fact, I think some of the plants may have even really liked it.

Up at my grandparents, where they got a couple inches of snow and had both me and my grandma super worried, things are looking really good.

In the first garden, the kale seemed to really like the snow, they’re getting huge! The tomato plant in the middle, which was the only one planted when it snowed, seems to be the only plant that really didn’t like the snow. I’m hoping it bounces back, but we’ll just have to wait and see.

The peas in the second garden are still looking good along with the curly kale. I can’t wait until they start climbing up the lattice!

The most exciting part was finding strawberries and they were really good too! We had problems right away with the strawberries, or I should say with the birds going after the strawberries. Todd and my grandpa put a net around the strawberry containers to keep the birds away and it definitely helped. Next year I'd like to plant a lot more strawberries, but that's for another time.

Back at home my containers are doing quite well also. The lettuce and green onions are growing like crazy, yay! I had trimmed the onions back a bit after the frost we had a few weeks ago and even after the snow they still look great!

And we have lots of little carrots already poking through. The boys are very excited about this.

So I’ve officially calmed down and am just back to being excited about all the produce we’ll be harvesting soon. ;)

Now that we’ve gotten are garden going the next thing I want to work on is getting a rain barrel started. Or maybe even two, one for here and one for my grandparents house. I need to do more reading up on rain barrels, so I’ll have to get back to you on why they’re good and how to make one.
