RAWk On!
Ok, so I'm so excited! Last week I found out about a Raw Health Expo happening in Sebastopol this weekend. Three different food blogs that I read where giving away a pair of tickets for the 2 day event so I entered all of them.
We used to live near Sebastopol and it's not that far from where we are now so it's something I could totally go to. And guess what, I won! Well sort of, but that's a long story. So thanks to HiHoRosie I've got 2 tickets for both days, I know, awesome!
I mentioned awhile back that I had stopped eating meat and that I was going to start moving into more "living" foods. Well, I have stopped eating meat and I am eating more veggies than before, but it's been kind of slow going.
I read a few different blogs that encourage raw food eating and I really love them, but just reading isn't quite enough for me. I like to see things done and hear specific things that work and don't work, especially when it comes to something that's so different than anything I've done before.
Eating raw is about more than just eating fruits, veggies, nuts and seeds, it's about a lifestyle change. It's also about looking at those foods in a different way. There's so much more that you can do with those foods than just make salads and smoothies and that's something I would really like to see up close and personal.
I wanted to make this change because although I did feel much better having given up corn, gluten and soy, I still didn't feel completely well. Cutting meat out has helped some more, I feel less sluggish and well, some other things that probably no one actually wants to hear, but that are better.
But I still haven't gone as raw as I'd like to. I'm the kind of person that likes detailed directions and once I have them then I feel comfortable changing things to make them my own. And for me that's what this expo will be, Raw foods 101.
Ok, and the other reason is that hopefully seeing it all right in front of me will inspire me and make me want to start un-cooking at home. Because, really, I have seen some incredible creations on other blogs and they all look really good and sound like they'd be easy to make. But I'll be honest, I don't really like cooking. It's just not something that's ever really appealed to me. Now this isn't exactly cooking, but it kind of is. Unless I want to subsist on salads I have to actually make things, which in the raw food world requires a dehydrator. And making raw creations in a dehydrator takes hours, so that means planning ahead. Yeah, I know some of you just laughed.
At any rate, raw food is something that I really want to learn more about and to incorporate into my life. I also really want to find ways to add it into the rest of the families lives as well. I didn't make anyone else give up meat, although they do eat a lot less of it since I really don't like cooking it any more, and I'm not going to "make" anyone go raw either. But if I can find ways to make at least some of the foods they eat raw, like crackers and chips, then that would definitely be a bonus.
So now the only dilemma is who to take, my mom or Todd?
Oh, and here are some great raw blogs (that are also about more than just food):
HiHoRosie's Place
the happy raw kitchen
Love Veggies and Yoga
A Bitt of Raw
In The Raw
Raw On $10 A Day (Or Less!)
Healing With (Raw) Juices and More
Kristen's Raw
Gluten Free Vegan Family
Ok, my fingers are tired so I'm going to stop now.
Have you heard of the raw foods diet? Do you think you could eat that way? Why or why not?

I am so happy you are going! It will be great for you because there are supposed to be a lot of food demonstrations there. So you can get some basic recipe ideas to get started.
Having been gluten-free awhile, I was always frustrated with the gluten-free recipes not being quite right. I never feel that with raw recipes, especially desserts. They actually taste good to me! So I think raw foods are important to include in a gluten-free diet, since most are gluten-free anyhow.
For me, it took awhile getting rid of gluten and dairy (which you can't digest when your gut is ruined from gluten--some find they can when it's healed) in order to feel better.
Thanks for the blog mention.
I hope you post some pics and your thoughts on the festival.
Hooray for you! I also gave away my two tickets on In The Raw (I'm on the other side of the country, sadly).
They've got some fabulous speakers and demos lined up. Bring your camera! I'll look forward to hearing all about it next week.
Sure do appreciate your kind mention and link.

Eating raw has completely changed my life, but it did not happen overnight. I am glad you can see the benefits to it as well. And of course, going veg is very 'green' hehe:)
